Oak City Lacrosse Fall 2023 Season - Lacrosse Training and Inter-squad Scrimmages

Oak City's Fall Season ends on November 5th.

FALL 2023
Who:
For Returning and Beginner Lacrosse players - Beginners are strongly encouraged to register for Fall 2023 if they intend to play Spring 2024 lacrosse.

When: Our Fall trainings will begin on Wednesday, August 30 and end on on Nov. 4.

Player Cohorts:  Grade 1-2  - Grade 3-4 - Grade 5-6  - MS+Frosh (7th-9th Grade)

For Middle School Age Players (7th-9th Grade):

We will train 7th-9th graders together in the Summer and Fall to provide 9th graders with some Fall lacrosse training prior to their first spring season as a high school player.  6th Graders will be evaluated for readiness for MS trainings and will be placed appropriately. Grade 7-8-9 players will train with the MS group unless there's a readiness/safety issue.  In the past, we've encouraged 6th graders to train and play with 5th-6th grade peers, although there are a few situations where a 6th grade player should be playing with his 7th-8th grade middle school teammates.

Oak City's Fall season focuses on technical and tactical skill development during a clinic-style set of weekly trainings.  We are focused on teaching the game using  the Lacrosse Athlete Development Model that has been developed by US Lacrosse. All Oak City coaches are in the US Lacrosse development pipeline, with a Level 1, 2 or 3 certification.

Dates for Fall 2023 - Saturday Mornings and Wednesday Evenings at Blue Jay Point
Saturdays Mornings: Sept. 9, 16, 23, 30, Oct. 7, 14, 21, 28, and Nov. 4th
Wednesday Evenings: 6:00-7:30PM Aug 30, Sept. 6, 13, 20, 27  AND 5:30-6:45PM Oct. 4, 11, 18.  We will suspend weeknight trainings after mid October due to shortened daylight hours.

Oak City's Fall Season is primarily a SKILLS DEVELOPMENT season. We are offering Saturday morning trainings and Wednesday evening trainings
for all players so that players who are playing a Fall sport can participate in our Fall season on ONE of those evenings or mornings and still and play soccer, football, basketball or another sport.

Oak City's Fall season is the time to learn how to play lacrosse or get better at the technical and tactical aspects of the game. We put a large emphasis on developing the stick (technical) skills necessary to improve and become a better player as well as the tactical elements of defense, offense and transition play.  Trainings will end with a small sided or larger group scrimmage for each age group, and we are planning to have a few scrimmages against regional opponents. Our focus in the Fall is skill development and having lots of fun!

New players and experienced players will be grouped into grade cohorts, and then sub-grouped into skill based
groups. (beginners will be grouped with beginners, advanced players with advanced players)

Oak City will attempt to schedule a scrimmage or two for the Fall against peer programs across the Triangle, but the Fall season emphasis is on skill development, small-sided competitions and scrimmage-style games that will encourage players to develop, explore and master the technical and tactical skills necessary to be a better lacrosse player.  Our Fall season is more like a twice-weekly lacrosse camp than practices and a game schedule.

Summer: Hot Wednesday Nights -

For returning players or those coming to Oak City from another lacrosse organization. We'll focus on playing small-sided scrimmages with grade-based cohorts.
Dates:  Wednesday Nights in JULY and AUGUST - START TIME TBD but expect either a 6PM or 7PM start time. Start time will depend on how many we have sign up. If we're busting at the seams, we'll do two separate sessions to spread out the field and provide a good experience for all players.

Summer IS NOT for players new to lacrosse
,
if your son has not played a season of lacrosse with our organization or another organization, DO NOT register him for Hot Wednesday Nights.  We will not offer instructional training for new players  and the summer sessions are not appropriate for players who have never played any organized lacrosse.

Registration for the Fall is live.
